The Western Heritage Horticultural Society, a part of the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame, officially adopted bylaws for this Society and established a Charter Founder document signed by eighteen members on January 26, 2016.

The Society consists of a diverse group of gardeners who live in the Lea County, New Mexico, area.  We are a trained, disciplined and largely certified group of gardeners who have created a new Horticultural Society under the sponsorship of the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame which is part of the New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico.  We are volunteers who will bring a new level of gardening interest to local and surrounding residents and add another community support dimension to the Western Heritage Museum by adding Water Wise landscaping lectures, workshops and outreach projects to the general public and patrons visiting the museum.  It is a win-win cooperative "adventure" between all entities involved striving to benefit the people who appreciate and garden in the desert landscape.  Additionally, there will be collaborative efforts with local and statewide organizations that support water conservation and using best horticultural practices for our climate and terrain.

The Society would like for all interested persons to take advantage of everything it has to offer and join the Western Heritage Museum as a member.  As a member of the Museum you are automatically a member of the Horticulture Society.  Most gardening events are open to the general public.

Purpose

The purpose of the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame Western Heritage Horticultural Society is to assist the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame Education program through education, training and outreach activities; and to actively promote the spirit of New Mexico Junior College, the Museum and its education programs whenever possible, through the use of horticulture and gardening initiatives.
